EC Media launches Wink, an e-Book reader to form the core of its digital ecosystem: August 19

Book lovers in India will now have a wide range of reading options on the digital front. Bangalore-based publisher EC Media's newly launched e-book reader, Wink, will be part of a reading-based ecosystem that will deliver e-books, journals, newspapers, magazines and more in English and several regional languages. A press conference was held on August 19 to announce the launch and this was followed by a post-launch event in the evening that was attended by writer Shobha De, actor Om Puri and his wife Nandita Puri.

The Samhita Academy and two other groups inaugurate Animal Adoption Awareness Drive: August 4

The Samhita Academy (TSA), along with Green Matrix Organization and the Bannerghatta Biological Park, inaugurated a two month long animal adoption and awareness building drive at the Park. The drive is aimed at spotlighting wildlife conservation issues for Bangalore residents and raising funds for the care of animals housed in Bannerghatta Park. More than 70 children from seven schools across the city took part in an art competition organised for the inaugural event which was attended by former Indian Test cricket captain Anil Kumble and actress Aindrita Ray.

Qualcomm announces partners in its New India LTE venture: July 30
Qualcomm announced Global Holding Corporation and Tulip Telecom as initial shareholders in its Long-Term Evolution (LTE) venture in India. Under the deal, which is subject to government approval, Qualcomm will hold a 74 percent stake, while Global Holding Corporation and Tulip Telecom will have 13 percent each. Qualcomm will continue to play a central role in the LTE ecosystem with a focus on enabling 3G/LTE multimode devices and services best suited for India.
 
UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, visits Infosys Campus: July 28

UK Prime Minister David Cameron, accompanied by a large delegation, visited the Infosys campus on Wednesday, July 28. Hosted by Infosys leader N.R. Narayana Murthy, the British PM's visit included a tour of the campus and an interaction with participants of a forum organized by 'Common Purpose', a UK-based not-for-profit organization.

Laguna Clothing launches new manufacturing plant: July 27
Laguna Clothing Pvt Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between the US$300 million CIEL Group Company (Mauritius) and US$ 200 million Gruppo Tessile Monti SPA (Italy) launched their second and larger garment manufacturing plant in Bangalore. With a capacity to produce 15,000 high end formal shirts per day, the company's new manufacturing plant is expected to employ more than 3000 workers, when the factory reaches maturity by the year 2011.
